Joyce Sowers and the others in the clerks office do a magnificent job assisting researchers however they cannot conduct extensive searches. When inquiring, be sure to provide as much information as possible, including full names, specific dates or targeted date ranges and the type of record desired. The County Clerk's office also maintains archive copies of old Union County newspapers. These are actual copies of the papers, not microfilms. They can be viewed by the public, but the clerk's office will not do newspaper research at all. Birth and death records are NOT available through the County Clerk. They are available only through the state Vital Statistics Bureau.
